Abandoned by both her husband and her old dog, Ilana, an origami artist, is lost and forced to live alone in her messy art studio. At rock bottom, she is befriended by an admiring math teacher who introduces her to a troubled, but brilliant, teenaged student whose natural talent with origami rivals her own. One of America’s most exciting up-and-coming playwrights, Rajiv Joseph, methodically unfolds the seemingly simple story to explore the fragility of love, the fleeting nature of happiness, and the challenge of creation. Joseph is the winner of numerous awards including the Vineyard Theatre’s Paula Vogel award. His play Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo was a finalist for the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. This will be the first production in Alaska of this emerging writer’s work.
