Aunt Claudia's Dolls will be open to the public on Friday, January 8th starting at 2 pm and for Gallery Walk. The dolls are located above Hearthside Books in the Triangle Building 114 S Franklin Suite 105 (entering from Franklin St).
Aunt Claudia's Dolls is a museum housing the collection of deceased local treasure, Claudia Kelsey. The museum is curated by Douglas doll maker Mary Ellen Frank and is currently housed in a storage space with some display opportunities. There are over 500 dolls and miniatures collected from all over the world by the Kelsey family over a period of 80 years, with some from the 18th and 19th century. The owner of the museum, Bea Shepard will be hosting the opening from 2-5 pm, and guest hosts will be available during Gallery Walk until 8 pm.
These dolls have been featured in three Holiday shows at the Alaska State Museum and another in the City Museum annex at the Davis Log Cabin. A doll and doll book exhibition in honor of and from the collection will be featured in the display window of the Douglas Public Library in December and January.
